G Suite & Chromebook Learning Journey

Google for Education Taiwan team walked with Taichung Education Bureau and GEG Taichung to host "G Suite & Chromebook Learning Journey" in Huludun Elementary School on Aug. 12th.

150+ educators attended the event regardless of the rainstorm on the day of the event. The host opened 15 sessions in total and invited 12 teachers from different field (e.g. Mandarin Chinese, Math, CS) to share their experience and best practices in terms of integrating G Suite and Chromebook into class.

Feedback and reviews were generally great, lots of teachers mentioned that they've learnt a lot from the lecturers and are now more confident to adopt G Suite & Chromebook to diversify the learning experience of their students!

iDEA - The Duke of York Inspiring Digital Enterprise Award

iDEA is a programme that helps develop digital, enterprise and employability skills for free. iDEA is about lifelong learning, for anyone who wants to develop their skills by undertaking a series of online challenges and tasks.  When a participant completes Bronze, Silver or Gold level they receive a certificate from Buckingham Palace.

But did you know that Google has been working hard to get educators recognised for attending training sessions, developing new digital skills and for continuing use of the tools once back in their organisations.

Here are some of the badges currently available, but keep checking back as more are likely to be released soon.

Applied Digital Skills

Since the beginning of the year Applied Digital Skills have added a new UK localized landing page. Both the US and UK resources offer 32 incredible, ready to use video-based lessons for use with Key Stage 3 to post 16 students and teach relevant skills needed for the jobs of the future.  Each lesson is displayed along with the lesson length, ages it is suitable for and the GSuite tools that will be used within the activities. Lessons range from 45 mins to 10 hours in length, so there really is something for everyone. Some lessons are also highly useful for staff CPD as they cover short lessons in creating Quizzes in Forms and Organising files in Drive.

Teachers get a great deal too when they use these lessons with their groups; they can share the lesson to Google Classroom, track student progress through the Applied Digital Skills grade book and each lesson also comes with its own lesson plan and rubric. What’s not to love about using these resources as they are easy to use and adapt to any teacher.

Trainer and Innovator Meetup at London Innovator Academy

Certified Trainers and Innovators were invited to meet at Google London in June to see the final project pitches and Graduations of London's 36 new Innovators. Many also watched via Hangout. The invited Trainers had the opportunity to see what was needed to graduate and given the chance to discuss ideas with the cohort in the hope that the time was right for them to apply to the next Innovator Academy. This cohort was given more tasks pre Academy to complete than previous cohorts so came to the Google Offices brimming with ideas, stories to tell and puzzles to solve.

The next chance to join the Innovator program is for Stockholm. Applications close on September 6, with the Academy dates November 6 - 8 2019. GEG members will be invited to future Innovator Academies so please look out  for updates!
