Global GEG: Making the World a Smaller, Better Place

Global GEG began when six Trainer/Innovators (Stephanie Howell, Abid Patel, Stephanie Rothstein, Luis Pertuz, Bonnie Chelette, and Lesleigh Altmann) wanted to support GEG events in their local regions all over the world. They began sharing resources, teaming up for events, and helping one another. This group realized that they were a small representation of GEGs across the globe and that others could use this support. Together, on May 1st, they founded Global GEG.

Global GEG’s official launch is June 25th but that hasn’t stopped this team from supporting events for GEGs all over the world. Since June, this group of 45+ educators has supported over 35 events including 11 local GEG launches. Whether you need help starting a GEG in your region, reigniting your GEG, communication strategies, professional development opportunities, or even a space to share your expertise and present on a global scale, Global GEG is here to help! Please visit the Global GEG Support webpage for specific events that help local GEGs.

Global GEG’s Level 1 Bootcamp sessions took place over three Fridays in June with office hours the following Mondays. The Bootcamp has had over 11,000 views of Days 1 and 2 with Day 3 taking place on the 26th of June. 25 Global GEG Leaders supported this effort with many more jumping onto the live chat to assist in answering questions. The event helped attendees become more prepared and confident to take the Level 1 GCE exam. Attendees took to social media to share their joy. Many were quite motivated by the leaderboard, challenges, secret words, and the option to earn graduate credit. Global GEG will conduct a Level 2 bootcamp on the 24th and 27th of July.

For Bootcamp videos, resources, notes, and summaries, please visit the Global GEG GCE Bootcamp website. Click on Level 1 and the Day to see all things associated with each day of the bootcamp series.

Global GEG would love to have you! If you are interested in joining this voluntary Google Educator Group (GEG) to learn from GEGs all over the world and grow your PLN, please visit globalgeg.org/meet-the-team and click volunteer to get more information.

Parent Tips for the New Normal Classroom

By Gary Garcia, GEG Ortigas Philippines

Distance Education is the modality for us to continue molding the minds of our students in this pandemic. Parents, teachers, and school administrators have different concerns that revolve around how distance learning will work. I was invited by fellow GEG Ortigas leader to give tips to parents about the new normal classroom.

After preparing my slides I realized that we have to be reminded of the basics, that we as parents are the first teachers of our children. Parents should reflect on our values system. Parents should model what we want them to teach.

Distance education is student-centered learning, students themselves need to learn life-skills. Our values system must be in place.
