Shoutout for the revived GEG in SouthTX

It is really important to know that all of us here at Google recognize the work that the amazing Trainer and Innovator communities do, and even though we may not always have a chance to say thank you personally, everything is noticed and very much appreciated. We promise.

Carlos Carza ("Mr. G.") got a great thank you this week for the superb work he has done for Google recently.

“I've worked with Carlos Carza "Mr. G." twice this year. He hosted two sessions at two different events.

Second, he completely revived the GEG in SouthTX. He hosts the meetups and started a podcast for those in the group who live too far to drive can listen in; the SouthTX GEG covers the whole Rio Grande Valley (RGV for short) which covers a large area and a lot of districts.”

THANK YOU SO MUCH CARLOS! Way to go!

GEG Andalucía: Educators Using GSuite Cloud Technologies

March 20 and 21, 2020

GEG Andalucía is a meeting of educators aiming to create an open space for reflection and focused on pedagogical practice with support of learning technologies and knowledge in the cloud.

It is aimed at educators and educational leaders (ICT / TAC coordinators, managers, department heads, educational managers) who routinely use the possibilities provided by G Suite for Education. It aims to facilitate the exchange of experiences, tools and proposals that today are a reality in the classroom.

An unprecedented opportunity for teachers to enjoy an educators event for educators, never before held in Andalusia. Workshop that seek to transform learning and with great impact in the field of technology adapted to education, papers that seek reflection and experiences that will motivate and provide skills to transform learning.

The meeting has a day and a half format. We will have the participation of two hundred and fifty educators who will share, in different formats, their classroom experiences with the objective of educational improvement and teacher professional development.

The fundamental objectives of this event are educational improvement and teacher professional development.

Digital Citizenship

As we have just had Safer Internet Day it’s a good time to remember the great resource that is Be Internet Awesome.
The idea behind Be Internet Awesome is to make sure the most important people in young people’s lives—their parents and teachers—have the resources to teach online safety and citizenship.

Since launching in 2017, Be Internet Awesome is now available in over 26 countries, 12 languages, and millions of people around the world have used the program. But we aren’t there yet. A new Google survey found that 2 out of 3 parents believe conversations about online safety should happen both in the home and in the classroom, but only 4 in 10 parents feel confident enough to talk to their families about online safety.

Along with these partnerships, we’re expanding Be Internet Awesome to the Netherlands, Indonesia, Nigeria, Kenya, and South Africa. We’re also teaming up with DonorsChoose.org to encourage teachers in over 3,500 classrooms to teach kids about online safety with the Be Internet Awesome Classrooms Rewards Program. And we’re partnering with Scholastic to provide 2 million families with Be Internet Awesome tips and resources for teachers and parents.

So if you have never checked this out, make sure you find the time https://beinternetawesome.withgoogle.com

GEG Bulgaria Share Their School Transformation

On 2-4 December 2019, 12 GEG Bulgaria members and 1 GEG Leader visited Joan Alcover School - A Google Reference School in Palma de Mallorca. Educators and headteachers exchanged practices and ideas on whole-school transformation. They discussed the 6-year transformation journey of Joan Alcover School and their success story on G suite integration, 1:1 Chromebook and project-based learning. GEG Bulgaria members organized a hands-on workshop covering Google Expeditions, Tour Creator and augmented and virtual reality.

A great example of how GEGs, Reference schools and Google partners (Center for Creative Training in Bulgaria and iEducando in Spain) can collaborate and foster educators from different countries to meet and support each other on meaningful use of technology.

Google Digital Wellbeing through Technology

Wellbeing and digital wellbeing are in many teachers’ thoughts right now, with workplace and student stress on a sharp rise. Google has developed a significant website to help us all manage our use of devices with the philosophy that technology should improve life, not distract from it.

Start the experience to reflect on your current use of technology and be offered advice on how to make sustainable changes. Please make your GEG members aware of this valuable resource and if you use it, please send in a review for a future newsletter.
