Issue No. 56

Thank you for all being so amazing despite all the difficulties you face. We see that some schools are back in person, some now have a hybrid timetable and others have returned to full-time remote teaching due to local or national lockdowns. The work you are doing is really helping teachers all over the world to be better prepared to support their students during the continual changes they are facing. Please keep up the good work!

Issue No. 55

It’s newsletter time again and we are seeing many new GEGs launched and a huge increase in collaboration across the world. It’s wonderful to see articles featuring more areas of the globe coming through now, so thank you for taking the time to send them in. I know some of you have asked for events to be announced in the newsletter, but unfortunately sometimes there isn’t enough notice given to get them in before the event happens. We try our best, but if you could give as much notice as possible that will help enormously. Then don’t forget the important wrote up after the event has happened so we can all share in your success. Keep up the great work.

GEG Kenya: Bringing The Benefits of Technology to Schools, Classrooms and Communities

The Kenya national newspaper, The Daily Nation, wrote that Google Classroom is now the most used educational platform in Kenya. The Centre for Mathematics, Science and Technology Education in Africa (CEMASTEA), which aims  to build the capacity of mathematics and science teachers for effective classroom practices in Sub-Saharan Africa adopted Google Classroom for its continuous teacher capacity building.

When the Kenyan government closed schools in the country during the COVID-19 pandemic, there was an urgent need to continuously support the GEG Kenya community through remote and distance learning modes and initiatives. As a result, GEG Kenya members, leaders and other education coalition partners collectively organized bi-weekly edWebinars via Google Meet, to help mitigate the effects of COVID-19 pandemic

GEG Kenya has seen tremendous growth in other various chapters and communities across Kenya : GEG Nairobi, GEG Mombasa, GEG Nakuru, GEG Kiambu, and GEG Laikipia respectively.

The GEGs are led by an enthusiastic and inspiring team of Instructional Technology Coaches, notably: Bernadette Kiarie, Rosemary Onyancha, Michael Njogu, Grace Irungu, Samuel Mwangi, Clarice Bwanga and Fred Sagwe.

GEG Kenya, also collaborated with the American Spaces (Moi University-Nairobi Campus) to offer GSuite for Education virtual edWebinars to empower their members.
